I was visiting the Time-Life website and noticed it has for sale a Hall & Oates best-of compilation I believe is sold exclusively through the website called All-Time Greatest Hits. Yeah, I know... the marketplace has become flooded with Hall & Oates compilations in recent years. But what's intriguing about this set is many of the hits on it look like they might be the 45 versions and lengths, many of which have never been issued before on CD! Take a look at the run times listed for the following tracks:
"Wait for Me" - 3:43 (LP version is 4:05)
"How Does It Feel to Be Back" - 4:15 (LP length - 4:34)
"You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" - 4:09 (LP length - 4:35)
"Adult Education" - 4:01 (LP version - 5:23)
"Method of Modern Love" - 4:17 (LP version - 5:33)
"Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" - 4:28 (LP version - 5:25)
"Possession Obsession" - 4:06 (LP version - 4:34)

Does anyone have this Hall & Oates All-Time Greatest Hits CD set and, if so, can you confirm if the songs listed above are indeed the 45 versions?

I've been looking for the single version of "I Don't Wanna Lose You" and I checked the version on this 3 CD set, and I can confirm it's the album version. With the other potential single versions on the set, I was hoping this one would be the single, but it's still has never made a CD anywhere in the world.

The 45 version of "Method" is (4:00) & the 45 version of "Some Things" is (4:02), so those two are either incorrect or have the wrong run times listed.

Ah... Thanks for pointing that info out, Aaron. I forgot to mention those actual 45 times in my original post.
I should also mention that I have most of the 45 edits of Hall & Oates' Top 40 hits on CD, thanks to Aaron who replicated them on his digital editing software. Still, it's always nice to see when record labels themselves finally get around to releasing previously unavailable single versions on CD.

By the way, I spoke with Edtop40 tonight about Hall & Oates' "Wait for Me". He informs me the commercial 45 runs 3:37 and is an early fade of the LP length running 4:05. The 45 label states a run time of 3:40. Currently, there is no 45/LP length distinction for this song in the database.

Actually, that H&O collection is available at retail (it
comes in one of those old-style 6"x12" cardboard
longboxes). Although a paid membership is required to
shop there, many of those CD collections found on the
Time-Life web site are carried at BJ's Wholesale Club,
and I assume their main competitors as well, namely
Costco and Sam's Club. My local BJ's has carried that H&O
collection in the past, and just yesterday, I returned
there to see if they still had any on the shelf, but
alas, it appears they're currently sold out. I'd looked
at that 3-CD H&O collection several times, but like you
said, because the market has been flooded w/ new ones on
them lately, I always passed on that one. I've bought
similar Time-Life collections in the past, and it
wouldn't surprise me if some of the hits you named above
are indeed the single versions that are otherwise
unavailable elsewhere...
And in the event other fans weren't aware of it, there's
also another excellent U.S. H&O collection available only
through mail order, simply titled "Greatest Hits". It's a
2-CD set w/ 32 tracks, and came out in the late '90s. (At
the time, it was by far the best domestic H&O collection
ever released.) It was sold through Collectors' Choice
Music (official web site: www.ccmusic.com), although I
just checked, and it appears the H&O collection I'm
referring to is no longer available. I don't have my copy
next to me here at this time, but I bought "Greatest
Hits" through them (on both CD and cassette) in 1998. And
although I generally don't collect vinyl 45s (in order to
compare), again, it wouldn't surprise me if "Greatest
Hits" has some single versions unavailable
elsewhere...

Aaron seems like an interesting and talented fellow when it comes to editing - as an aside, I think I should pay him to recreate all of my favourite radio edits and I will take them to a record cutting plant and make 12" singles from them (I know this is a CD board, but CDs are the musical equivalent of ashtrays....lol (sorry I have nothing to say nice about CDs, as I'm an analog guy through and through.
Back to the topic, Aaron submitted me a "demonstration" of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and it was right on the money. I consider myself a very good editor, but I think I have to step aside when it comes to Aaron. I tend to take liberties when I recreate edits, but he gets them all in the right spots.
Very talented he is.

I wish I were more active on this board as of late, but I've had a lot of major things going on. For those interested, my wife and I are in the middle of building a house, we're expecting a baby in February, and I'm searching for a new job in the Dallas area. The company I work for will be relocating to Burbank, California, and I'd rather not move to that area. (No offense, Brian :]) Those three things are keeping me busier than I'd like to be!

Hey, I'm a 'newbie' when it comes to Adobe Audition, only having used it for a year, thus far. Aaron I think has used it for 10 years, probably back to its Cool Edit Pro days. And, I also highly respect Paul, Doug and the other digital editors that get it right every time.
I will say I amaze myself sometimes with my finished product. My stereo 45 recreation of Steely Dan's "Do It Again" got some nice compliments. :)

My next project is to verify 45 length fades with someone here, if you'd like to help. I need to go through my library and make sure I have the fades in the right spot.
Proper fading seems to be my weakness.

Thank you for all the nice comments! I think we all bring unique skills and expertise to this board, and I'm proud to say that mine is in the editing department. Todd (Paul) and Brian also have incredible editing abilities when it comes to matching the 45's exactly. Those guys, along with Doug, John, Jim, Ed, Gordon, and many others on this board have far more knowledge of top 40 music than I do, though. Honestly, I didn't know half as many songs before networking with all of you. You have all helped to exapnd my music awareness a great deal.
I have yet to see another message board that brings both great information and a true sense of teamwork as I've seen here. I really enjoy the positivity, and I'll keep trying to contribute as much as I can in the busy months ahead.

Not to brag at all (this is seriously meant as an honest assessment of my own abilities) but I will concur with you on amazing myself, but I have to admit I've been futzing with open-reel editing since I was a youngster (and I have worked small-market radio production, so digital editing just gives me so much more ease.
Although I cannot say that I'm an authentic editor (true to the 45), I do very well creating my own edits. I would have loved to edit radio singles. I think it is an art to take something, make it sound shorter and concise, but maintain the impression, message and feel of the original.
As for Aaron's comments, I agree it is wonderful to somehow be part of a community that shares with each other. Well all get a chance to pat others on the back, and also to boast about ourselves and our own abilities (sorry for doing that just now ... lol). I think that our mutual respect for each other's abilities and knowledge is what makes something like this forum an addictive read.

Regarding the "All-Time Greatest Hits" compilation, I
believe the version of "Method Of Modern Love" that
appears on it is the Promo 45 Version, aka "Remixed
Edited Version".
I'm still trying to figure out where the 4:27 edit of
"Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" came from. The
commercial 45 runs a few seconds over 4 minutes, and the
one on ATGH is closer to 4 1/2 minutes. I looked up the
various single configurations of the song on Discogs,
and so far none of them show a 4:27 running time.

Not 100% sure, but I believe it's an early fade and
appears on the Japanese "Best Of" compilation.

Can anyone confirm 100% that the “Remixed Edited Version” of MOML
indeed appears on this comp.? I bought this track from the recent
‘Single Mixes’ digital release, and it sounds a bit fuzzy, as if a higher
generation tape source was used. Would love to get my hands on the
version from ATGH if it is this same mix, to see if it sounds any cleaner.
