The digital 45 of "Through The Fire" is half a minute shorter than the LP version I have on my iPod. I guess I gotta buy this one then.

I don't know if this series is still a going concern, but at some point the 45 version of Rod Stewart's "Young Turks" was released, which I don't believe has ever been available on anything other than a 45.

Yes, it was ended. I heard a rumor that the person who championed it was let go during the big Rhino layoff last year. I just wish they would make the remainder of the ones they DID release available in lossless format on their website. I sent a query to "Dr. Rhino" about that a few months ago, and he said he honestly didn't know if there were any plans to make the remainder available as lossless downloads or not, but that he would put it in "the suggestion box."

And in 2007, Rhino unfortunately discontinued their "Hi-5" series - a digital-only release of 5 songs of an artist. Right before they stopped the project, they were about to release a 5-song "Hi-5" of Laura Branigan, containing 5 songs that have never been released on CD anywhere in the world - her 1st 3 Atlantic singles and their 2 B-sides.

There are many Digital 45's on the Rhino site....some of the tracks are common (excluding the b-sides), other are hard to find gems like "Light My Fire".

Since I am not as knowledgeable as many of you on the board, I was wondering if someone (or a joint effort is great too...lol) could let me know which digital downloads are not available or very hard to get on CD (again, not counting the b-sides).

Looking through the database and on the Rhino site, this is the initial list I came up with. Some of these may be avaiable, but if they are on only on a few rare CD's I've included them.....

BTW, unless mentioned in the 6 pages of this thread, I don't see Suite: Judy Blue Eyes on the Rhono site anymore.

Any other great 45 version rarity that is available on Rhino Digital 45 that I missed, please let me know.

If you do a keyword search on iTunes or Rhapsody for Digital 45, many still come up in the results, including:

I understand that there are many digital 45's but what i am trying to find out are those that have 45 versions that are not common and are hard to get on cd.

I guess I am a little confused. 45 versions like "Take On Me", "Summer Breeze", Notorious (45 version), etc are fairly common so the Digital 45 is not offering anything that I can't get elsewhere (unless I was maybe looking for the B-sides).

Is this correct?

A track like "Light My Fire" and those I've mentioned in my previous post are either not available on CD or on very few cd's and are hard to come by.

Basically, I am trying to figure out which of these Digital 45s versions are not commonly found elsewhere?

I don't think it ever was, Fetta. I'm pretty sure they only put the first wave of Digital 45s that was released on the Rhino website, and that was in about the third wave.

The mono 45 version of Suite: Judy Blue Eyes is still on Rhapsody and iTunes.

Does anyone know why many of these are not available on the Rhino site? I know that I-tunes, 7 Digital, etc have them but the highest quality seems to be on the Rhino site.

Because Rhino has more or less abandoned their download site. I don't think they've loaded any new albums for download on their site in some time.

I haven't seen any new content on there in at least a
year. Such a shame. I got excited when the digital 45s
started to appear in lossless format, only to see that
program stagnate. They also made available a few albums
that were never released on CD (Peter, Paul & Mary's
"Reunion" comes to mind).

It all looked promising, but I guess the business model
wasn't really showing the return they wanted, or maybe it
just got lost in all the corporate reshuffling. In any
event, I wish the labels would seriously consider
something along these lines for rare or out-of-print
material that would be cost prohibitive to reissue on
physical media. While these market segment may never be
huge, the costs would be low and you would think that the
labels would be looking for any revenue stream they can
get.

Just a note: the 45 version of Foreigner's "Urgent" is on
many CD comps.

I do have a question: what is the difference between the LP
mix and the 45 mix of "Oh What I Night (December 1963)"?
The only difference I detect is a different mastering. To
my ears, the 45 sounds better, with more bass, or weight.
