This song isn't listed in the database, even though it peaked at #22 in
Billboard. Does the single version of this differ from the LP version? |

It's been a while since I've listened to this one, but I do remember at the very least, the version we played on the air faded earlier than the full-length LP version. That is probably the only difference. I don't have access to my commercial CD single right now, so I can't say for sure if it also has the early faded version. I'm inclined to think that it does.

Over at discogs, the CD single has a listed time of 4:52.
My version, from RPM Top Hits, fades out completely at 4:47. Though, given their history, probably is a couple seconds early. |

I just pulled out my promo CD single for this song, and here are the particulars:
Melissa Etheridge-"I Want To Come Over" (PRCD 7136-2) 1-(non-described version) (listed 4:34; actual 4:51) |

there must have been some in-house edits done because wasn't 4:51 a
little long for pop radio? |

Quite possibly, but the only version I heard in my area was the 4:51 version listed above on the promo CD single. It's an early fade of the LP length, which is listed as 5:23 in the database.

Here are the details of the other promo CD:
PRCD 7155-2 1. AC Mix (listed 4:34; actual 4:51) Compared to the LP mix, the AC Mix slightly reduces the volume of the drums, and there is a subtly different reverb on the snare drum. The acoustic guitars are brought forward a little, and the electric guitars are reduced a little. These changes are all pretty subtle, though. |

Also, since I hadn't ever confirmed the details of the 2-track stock CD single, it does run 4:51, just like the version on the promo CD. There are no printed times.
