An import CD which is why it's not in the database. It
would have been pretty awesome if they had included the
original mix as one of the bonus tracks. But at least it's
cool the album was reissued at all.

If it's from Estonia, it's probably a seller I have bought from occasionally - who sells only bootleg CDs he makes himself. What is the seller's username on ebay? I'd probably still remember it. He does very clean vinyl. Most people wouldn't be able to tell. If this isn't from clean vinyl, I'd probably buy the CD in a heartbeat, but it most likely is. He specializes in reissue albums that have never been on CD, and cleans the vinyl himself. He had the 5 Neil Sedaka CDs from '77 ("A Song") through '82 ("Come See About Me") - all from vinyl. If you ask him before buying, "Is this from vinyl or master tape", he's very honest and responds "from vinyl". Please let me know the seller's name. It should be in your emails, or on ebay, on your "Items bought" page. Thanks.

The seller is "ruthem." If this is from vinyl, it's the
cleanest I've ever heard.

Yeah, ruthem - that's the one who cleans records from vinyl.

Nice to know he cleans them up so well. Have you bought anything else from this seller?

Sometimes I don't notice something's from vinyl when listening on speakers. Then when I hear it on headphones, it becomes very evident. You hear record noises more clearly.

I'd bet dollars to donuts there's an early vinyl pressing of "Famous at
Night" with the 4:13 version on it.

It's hard to believe a Top 40 song from 1985 (okay, just
barely breaking that barrier) has yet to be officially
released on CD.

Was it just too low of a chart success to be licensed for
any 80s CD compilations, or are there rights issues?

There are no rights problemd with the song. Sony owns it. Had Rhino's Radio Daze series expanded beyond 1981 and gone to at least 1985, we surely would have asked for this song.

I think it simply boils down to the fact that no label has ever requested this song to be on a comp. (And the original album has never been released on CD in Japan or Europe, etc.)

I really like the song a lot!

Another song in the same category is Stallion's "Old Fashioned Boy (You're the One)" - a top 40 hit that peaked in the low 30s that's never been released on CD.

1985 was a busy year for me outside of music related interests. I have been reminded of that twice now after this topic and watching a mini-series on Netflix about the guy in Salt Lake who
was forging Mormon documents. The whole year appears to be a blank! This song doesn't ring a bell for me at all.

Did a bit better on the Cash Box singles chart peaking
at #31. The song did spend 16 weeks on both the
Billboard and Cash Box singles charts. Since it has
never been officially released on CD it's no wonder it
doesn't ring a bell. It's a lost 80s tune for sure.
Pretty cool tune in my book (I prefer the shorter 45
remix).

One of my favorite "forgotten" tunes from 1985. It actually peaked at #3 on the WLOL-FM (Minneapolis) weekly survey.

Just to add my 2-cents, I have a really good dub of the
4:13 version from a 45 I bought back in 1985. If anybody
wants it, please PM me.
