If you want to talk about a top 10 edit not on CD, Mike + The Mechanics - All I Need Is A Miracle's Promo 45 Edit runs 3:47, not 3:42 as it does on every instance on CD. In some instances it cuts off abruptly at 3:42.

As discussed in another thread, Regina's Baby Love is a 1986 Top 10 that in its 45 version (4:06) does not appear on any 80's comps. While extended versions and mixes are out there, it only appears on CD on 1986's Curiosity.

It's interesting that judging by the running times of the
songs on this compilation, it seems that they used the
album versions for all the other songs except
"The Men
All Pause". I guess the 7-Minute length was too much for
them!

The single edit of Rod Stewart "Every Beat of My Heart" is on this common import CD:

I was under the impression that there was something unique about the audio in the 45 vs the LP....

That is correct regarding "Somewhere." The first 8 seconds are mixed differently on the 45 version, as some of the sound effects have been removed from the mix as well as a brief vocal ad-lib. The remainder of the song is the same mix as the LP version.

Regarding Chaka Khan - Love Of A Lifetime in Poparchivist's
list. I don't think the version on the platinum collection
is the true 45 version. The track runs very slow. From my
recollection, there is one edit and a possible pitch
difference from the LP - easily recreated. The track
duration is closer to 4:11 and not 4:16. I don't have the
the promo 45 anymore to verify but the version on platinum
collection does not sound right to me. Can anyone confirm?

About Barbra's "Somewhere", I think the version used in
the
official music video is the 45 one.
If that's correct, then the best source for it could be
audio from the laserdisc (this one:
https://www.discogs.com/release/7541816-Barbra-Streisand-
Putting-It-Together-The-Making-Of-The-Broadway-Album ).
Later released on DVD (2007 - LPCM, DTS) as part of this
set: https://www.discogs.com/master/1109333-Streisand-
The-Concerts
The bad news is that towards the end of it the song's
audio
fades into the interview.
But maybe the intro of these video releases could be used
to recreate a digital sourced 45 version.
Not an expert. Just an idea.

Cristian sent me the laserdisc audio, and it's very narrow stereo. The best source (and the one I used) is the promo 12" single. I tacked the intro from the 12" onto the CD version, and it sounds nice.
