While researching some info on another Sting song, I came across a web site that lists the "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" US 7" on A&M 2765 as having the Jellybean 7" Mix. If this is true, then the comment "LP Version" should be next to all CD appearances of this song. The web site also states that the run time of this version is (4:18).

Aaron:

In his Top Pop Singles 1955-1999 book, Joel Whitburn indicates that U.S. commercial 45 copies of "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" is under catalog number A&M 2738. The A&M 2765 catalog number you site is actually a Canadian commercial 45 pressing.

Ah, well that's good news, because that would've meant another 45 version not available on CD. Thanks for the info on that one, Todd.

I noticed the database now says "(both dj and commercial copies of this 45 were issued with a run time of (4:12) even though the record label states (4:14), and (4:18) which is a remix)" for this one. Is this indicating that the Jellybean remix was also released on a domestic 45?

No, my commercial copy does not include the remix.

Ah, the way it's worded makes it sound as if both DJ and commercial copies were pressed for both versions.

I don't think this is correct. There appears to be one
here on 45cat, with no indication it's a Canadian
pressing, and "Printed in the USA" on the sleeve:

om/record/am2765

And Jeff H. claimed to own a US remix commercial 45 in the
other thread about this song.

Brian, I have a Canadian copy, and the label looks nothing like the one on 45cat. I think there really were two different US 45s pressed up for this one.

Is that 4:22 version from "25 Years" the same remix/edit? I just obtained the original Jellybean 12-inch mix from the UK CD single of "Englishman in New York," but the 7" remix cannot be edited down from it -- it doesn't have the same intro.

It's labeled on iTunes as "2011 Remix" and is definitely not the Jellybean remix/edit.

I have a copy of the remix 45 on A&M 2765. It is as described in Brian W's post (sleeve has made in USA notation).

I know Pat doesn't make LP/45 distinctions for a few
extra seconds, but I wanted to note that the longer
entries in the database do include a few more seconds of
music on the fade than the version on the "Dream of The
Blue Turtles" album

I'm trying to decide whether to buy this 7" provided it contains the
remix-edit discussed on this thread. Can anyone please confirm?
This is a commercial issue.

That one is the commercial 45 from the US, and it's just the album version.

Thanks, I thought it may feature the same mix as the
commercial picture sleeve single
(https://www.discogs.com/Sting-If-You-Love-Somebody-Set-
Them-Free-Special-Dance-Remix/release/4293684) because of
the remix credits on side A.

I hadn't noticed the Jellybean credit before, and now I'm not sure if the US 45 is really the LP version or not.

Anyone with a needledrop of the 45?

There are two different US stock 45s. One has the LP version, and the other has the remix.

I have a copy that was assigned the catalog number AM 2765, and comes in a picture sleeve identical to the original 45. The only difference is that it says "SPECIAL DANCE REMIX" in the upper right hand corner.

I pulled out my "Stax-O-Wax: The Directory Of American 45 R.P.M. Records", looked up A&M 2765, and it DOES in fact list a second stock 45 release of the Sting 45 for that #, in addition to the more common A&M 2738. Nice work, Jeff!

So since this never really was asked, which one was the one played on radio? Or both?

I tend to listen to the LP version. Until someone pointed out the Jellybean Remix, I wasnt aware it was also the commercial 45....any thoughts anyone?

bumping this back up. I learn something new on this
site each visit. I had no idea there was a 7" edit of
the Jellybean mix. I'm assuming it has never made it to
cd as of the last post a year ago?

I don't believe so. But I'm pretty sure I've seen the
full remix on some VA Compilation somewhere. I don't know
if you could edit it to get the Remix 45 Version.
