billboard magazine lists a label & catalog number for the song "because i got high" by afroman as universal 015310...but i can't seem to locate any format (cd single, 45, cd maxi single or 12" single) with this catalog number.....does anybody know which format this catalog number belongs to.....also....what is the label & catalog number for the promo cd single (jim) and what are the versions and running times of the tracks.....and finally....which version was played most on the radio.....b/c the 12" version has as track one on the A-side the "Afropulco Gold & Dirty" version running (3:18)

The only commercial format I've seen for that single is the DVD single. Did Billboard ever list DVD singles' catalog numbers?

don't know, but whiburn's "billboard top 40 hits" book has that catalog number listed next to the song.....so he got it from somewhere, i assumed it was the actual billboard charts...

edtop40:

Can't help you w/ the "015310" catalog no., but I do have the promo CD single:

UNIVERSAL UNIR 20575-2

1) "Afrolicious" (listed & actual: 3:18)
2) "Afrohabilitated Clean & Sober" (listed & actual: 3:21)
3) "Afropulco Gold & Dirty" (listed & actual: 3:18)

Wow, a promo CD single w/ all accurate timings, lol...

Track #1 is the clean/censored version of the song...

Track #2 is also a clean/censored version, but w/ pretty funny sound effects covering up the "bad" words (belching, a match striking, a cat wailing, etc.), as well as whenever he sings the word "high" during the chorus...

Track #3 is the uncensored version...

I can only assume that track #1 was the most-played on the radio. (The back insert even has the "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" logo, w/ "SOME VERSIONS MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR AIRPLAY" printed just below it!)

This particular promo CD single was tied in to the song's inclusion in the movie/soundtrack "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", but does mention Afroman's own album appearing a month later in the fine print on the back insert...

I don't know if another (different) promo CD single was also issued, but if anyone has one, I'd be curious to know as well...

Ed, yes there was a 12" commercial single and a vinyl 45 issued for "Because I Got High" with the number 015310. The first time Billboard showed this number was the Hot 100 chart dated September 22, 2001.

Paul, does your vinyl 45 have catalogue number 015310 ? Mine has number 440 015 282-7. Both sides feature the clean version without the sound effects. The labels on both sides incorrectly have a "Parental Advisory - Explicit Content" warning.

Pat, The CD promo for this song listed in the database should be changed to "Afrohabilitated Clean & Sober" instead of "Afrohabilitated Clean & Dirty".
