Pat's DB lists this song as a 5:46 LP version and a 3:50 45 version. However, the version appearing on the OST of Runaway Bride clocks in at 5:23. Anyone know the scoop on this? Could this be the 45 edit and the 3:50 version the radio edit, not the 45? Help anyone??

The commercial vinyl 45 is actually the full 5:46 LP version (I don't know about other commercial single formats), although the label states a time of 5:25. (Robert, does it actually run 5:23 on the Runaway Bride OST or does the CD simply state so?) The promo CD single has the "Radio Edit" (3:51) and the "LP Version" (5:47).

Paul, the CD doesn't have any time listing. It's real time and it's 5:23, complete with the ending (not faded). So if the vinyl 45 is the 5:46 LP version, and the radio edit is 3:51, then what the heck is this one? Maybe there's a third version or edit that appeared only on the OST. Or maybe a second 45 version. I haven't been this confused since my honeymoon.

In cases like this, Pat usually denotes a movie soundtrack CD containing a different edit or version of a Top 40 hit with the comment: (soundtrack version). I believe this policy applies when a soundtrack is released at approximately the same time as the Top 40 hit in question.
Pat, feel free to chime in if I'm wrong.

tracklisting:
1. You Sang To Me (Remix) 5:30
2. You Sang To Me (Remix Radio Edit) 3:49
3. You Sang To Me (Album Version) 5:47
4. Muy Dentro De Mi (You Sang To Me) (Spanish) 5:54
5. Muy Dentro De Mi (You Sang To Me) (Spanglish) 3:56
Is track 2 the same "Radio Edit" Paul mentions on the
promo CD single?

Am I to assume that the soundtrack version with an actual
running time of 5:23 is the 5:30 remix?

One of the most interesting bits of Billboard Hot 100 trivia I ever came across. And it's something virtually no one would know. Most chart fans might know this song peaked at #2 on the Hot 100. I happened to be at Fred Bronson's house the day the chart came out that week. He told me the difference between the #1 and #2 song on the chart that week was so close that IF "You Sang To Me" got ONE more play on a NYC station, it would have peaked at #1 that week! Just one more spin! Incidentally, Fred wrote for Billboard's Chart Beat column at that time and for many years, so he would know!
I wonder how many other #2 hits were virtually #1 hits and we just will never know how close they came.

I've always wondered how close Foreigner - Waiting For A Girl Like You was in 1981. Olivia Newton John's Physical and Hall & Oates I Can't Go For That if I recall matched the entire 10 week run blocking it from hitting #1. Same goes for Missy Elliot's Work It which as #2 for 10 weeks, which I think was blocked by Eminem's Lose Yourself, which had 12 weeks.
Then you have songs that spent crazy weeks at #2 Like Exhale (Shoop Shoop) by Whitney Houston and Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These) which managed to finally sneak a week at #1 after massive hits of the year kept them out (One Sweet Day and Every Breath You Take respectfully).
It would make it quite interesting to know how close both Missy and Foreigner were to #1 at any time during their 10 week #2 runs...

I just listened to the "Remix" on YouTube, and this is a totally different recording from the original mix (new vocals and new instrumentation). Presumably, the "Remix Radio Edit" would be an edit of the longer version. When the song was a current, we played the "Radio Edit" from the promo CD, which is a short version of the LP version.

video for the Spanish-language
version titled "Muy Dentro de Mi"
and uses a shorter edit of the 5:54
remix in Spanish which uses the
same mix as the remix of the
English version. This shorter edit
of the Spanish version runs 3:50
and has received airplay in several
Latin American radio stations.

I just listened to the remix radio edit and the radio edit
and I've only ever heard the radio edit (edit of the LP
version.) So, I guess I answered my own question!

The 5:25 version included on the Runaway Bride
soundtrack is the same as the LP version but the main
difference is that the intro is slightly shorter. The
first verse in the LP version starts at 0:45, whereas
the soundtrack version has the first verse starting at
0:23.
So I guess the 5:23 version appearing on the
Runaway Bride soundtrack was a unique version
so that CD matching the listed time on the commercial
45 vinyl Paul mentions, much like the 3:35 version of
Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It" that appears on the
original releases of Greatest Hits Volumes I &
II even though the 45 version of "Tell Her About
It" is the same as the LP version running 3:50.

David, so Greatest Hits Volumes I & II have 5 more seconds of "Tell Her About It" that never appeared on the 45 or the parent LP?
As for "You Sang To Me", the only version I ever heard on radio, TV, etc. was the edit of the LP version.

Since it hasn't already been mentioned, here are the details of the commercial 2-Track CD Single of "You Sang To Me".
Columbia 38K 79406
1. (Radio Edit) - Listed 3:51
2. Muy Dentro De Mi (You Sang To Me) (Spanglish) - Listed 3:56
Discogs doesn't show a listing for a Vinyl 45 in the US, although it's already been mentioned here that one exists.
The Radio Edit was all I ever heard played on radio at the time, so I would consider that version to be the true single version, even though it's been
pointed out that the 45 contained the full album version of the song.

It was actually just the opposite for "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)". It debuted at #1 and stayed there for 1 week, then was pushed down to #2 for 11 weeks while "One Sweet
Day" was #1. Don't know for sure, but it may still hold the record for most weeks at #2 whether the song hit #1 or not.
And don't forget Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" last year. Billboard mentioned that it spent 9 non-consecutive weeks at #2 before moving up to #1 for 1 week. Of course, it
was kept out of #1 all those weeks by the song that now holds the record for most weeks at #1, Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus' "Old Town Road".

In the case of "Tell Her About It",
the song is 15 seconds shorter
(3:35) in the original Greatest
Hits Volumes I & II CD unlike
the LP and actual 45 version
running 3:50.
I found another CD which contains
the remix of "You Sang to Me". It
is a various artists compilation
titled Platinum Rhythm
released by Maverick Records in
2001.

Me" I could find on Discogs is this
7" featuring "I Need to Know" on
side A and "You Sang to Me" on side
B.
