Looks like someone just posted a video of the 1985 promo that runs about
3:23.

1985 promo

Honestly, I'm surprised this isn't the one being serviced to radio - especially
on today's Top 40/CHR stations. The average length of current tracks has
come way down in recent years.

Hi guys, I wanted to tell you that the music service
ProAudioUSA edited "Running Up That Hill" (2018 remaster
version) a few weeks ago with a duration of 5:00 minutes
and a couple of days ago in the single blast it delivered
the edit version with a duration of 3:46, and As far as I
know, promo 45 is shorter and runs at 3:23, can someone
tell me what this edited version is about.

Will it be an edited version from 1985? Released in the
US or UK?

- Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)
(2018 Remaster) (E652) 5:00
- Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)
[Radio Edit] (Single Blast - 6/18/22) 3:46

cheers

I gotta admit, I never quite warmed up to this song. However, Kate Bush wasn't on my list of artists to follow back then. I did however like the duet she did with Peter Gabriel, "Don't Give Up."
So, it's not so much that I didn't like her music, I just didn't take any time to explore her music away from Peter.

Thanks for the link, WWYW-FM. I thought I was hearing the production of Michael Cretu and his wife Sandra in the background of that version. (I was a big fan of these two in the 90's.)
I suppose a number of artists had an unexpected overlap of things sounding similar as so many electronic instruments were being discovered back then.

Yeah, the song doesn't do much for me, either, but it's interesting to see a 37-year-old song hit the top 5 on the Hot 100.

Supposedly, Pass The Dutchie received some renewed interest
recently but not to the level that Kate Bush has received.

That's regular Top 40 Music On CD forum contributor Gene
Savage who posted that.

Wasn't my favorite back then either. The Hot 100 now is a reflection of what's the hottest streaming song. It's really turned into a popularity chart rather than how well a single sells as evidenced by the album bombs charting for a week from huge artists and then never seeing the light of day again...

The new 2022 edit trims the fade in a little bit and makes one other edit, cutting out the second verse and second chorus.

Starting with the file of your choosing, keep only 2.8 seconds of the synth fade in before the first drum beat (delete everything prior). Then remove 1:11 to 2:22 on the snare hit (the fourth beat of the measure in both places). Once you've made these edits, fade in the intro from 0:00 to 0:01.5.

Hasn't it always been a popularity chart? It's just measuring something different now (what people are actually listening to via streaming) as opposed to back then when it measured what radio stations were playing and what singles people were buying. Same basic idea but within the parameters of the times we live in.

Promo Only just serviced the 'new' radio edit, running 3:45
and the full 5:00 LP version. This must be the edit Aaron
references above. Too bad they couldn't have serviced the
original 1985 radio edit.

Sometimes, I get pulled in by the clickbait titles on the Professor Of Rock's youtube channel. I'm thinking I heard him comment on this Kate Bush comeback song.

I am guessing that this was mentioned earlier, but I actually did see the latest season of "Stranger Things" using Running Up That Hill in an episode. Is this what got
all the chart activity going? I am not sure why I watch this show as horror isn't among my usual favorites. However, I do have a friend who really likes it and I like
to have some stuff that's new to discuss from time to time. Next up, The Umbrella Academy...
