A new cd release titled "Fired Up! 2" on the Razor & Tie label includes the song "Stranger In My House" by Tamia, running 3:54. Is this the 45 version?

I have "Stranger in My House" on commercial CD single and it runs 4:45, same as the album version.

As always, I've done some sleuth work and have located information on a promo CD single copy (Elektra PRCD 1553-2) containing the following track listing and printed run times:

1) RADIO EDIT - 4:12
2. ALBUM VERSION - 4:45
3. RADIO EDIT WITH FADE - 3:55

Could the 3:54 version appearing on the Fired Up! 2 disc be the "radio edit with fade"?

Although I don't own "Fired Up! 2" I'm pretty sure it's a collection of dance songs. The track "Stranger In My House" had a dance remix that received some airplay--the "Thunderpuss Radio Mix" which runs 3:55 on my Promo Only Rhythm Radio series. I'd be willing to bet that this is the version that you have on your compilation, Pat. I'm not sure which versions were released on the singles, but I know there was more than one dance radio mix, and the slow version, which is on the promo single that Todd found.

There are only two tracks on the commercial CD single:

1) Stranger in My House (album version)
2) Un'h ... to You (album version)

I don't think "Stranger in My House" was released on any other commercial single format other than vinyl 12-inch single, which does contain a bunch of remixes.

I've managed to come across another promo CD single on Elektra PRCD 1580-2 and am wondering if one of these might possibly contain the version appearing on the Fired Up! 2 disc*:

1) SO SO DEF RADIO MIX - 4:04
2) SO SO DEF RADIO MIX NO JD - 4:04
3) SO SO DEF MAIN MIX - 4:56
4) MAURICE'S SOUL RADIO MIX - 3:55

* run times are copied from the track listing and not confirmed

I agree with Aaron that the Fired Up! 2 is likely a compilation of dance songs. I guess we should ask Pat if the version of "Stranger on My House" on this disc sounds like the original ballad version or a dance remix.

The version on "Fired Up! 2" is definitely a dance remix and therefore is probably the "Maurice's soul radio mix" mentioned above Todd. Until someone can positively confirm this, I will just list it as "neither the 45 or LP version".

The version is definitely the Thunderpuss Radio Mix on the
CD. This was one of the two versions that I played as a
Club DJ back in the day & I owned the 12" at one time.

Hey Ed, I just ordered that promo from eBay, since I didn't have it. I'll report the actual run times when I receive it.

In the meantime, I have a FOURTH promo CD single that hasn't yet been mentioned:

PRCD 1627-2
1. Mike Rizzo WKTU Radio Mix (actual 3:48)
2. Mike Rizzo WKTU Merge Mix (actual 4:00)
3. So So Def Merge Radio Mix (actual 4:40)

Track 1 is a dance mix, while tracks 2 & 3 start with the ballad version and "merge" into the described mixes.

Just to clarify, The Thunderpuss Radio Remix was the only version of this song that I heard on the radio. Until I collected Tamia's album, I never heard the slow version. I can see why radio would turn to a remix in this situation. If anyone is going for accuracy this is one of those cases of the album version on a CD single being replaced by a promo remix.

So which is the hit version, the Radio Edit? I only heard
the Thunderpuss Radio Mix on CHR radio back then.
