need a little help here on this one......does anyone have a promo cd single for the song "what becomes of the brokenhearted" by paul young..........my promo cd single is issued as mca cd45-2106.....if so....what is the actual running time of the song on your disc......the cassingle and 45 both run 4:05 and is a slight remix of the full 4:35 cd/lp version.....my promo copy issued as cd45-2106 runs 3:50......the reason i'm asking this question is that i have another mca issued song from a band called indecent obsession titled "tell me something" and this song has TWO promo cd singles issued with the outside inserts stating the same catalog number but the disc itself stating a different catalog number........the versions on these 2 disc are different as well........i'm just taking a stab at trying to find a promo cd single issued somewhere with the correct 45/cassingle version of the song "what becomes of a brokenhearted".........anyone??

bumping this one up to the top, since it's been a few years...this is one of the 2 or 3 tracks from the 90's which i do not have the correct single version for.....has anyone been able to edit either the full length cd version or the promo cd version down to match the cassingle/45 version....i believe it may not be possible.....i think aaron tried it a few years ago and he felt it couldn't be edited...if that is the case can someone use the parts from a mint 45 to splice together with either the full length cd version or the incorrect edit from the promo cd single....edop40

Ed:

I have a sneaking suspicion that the 45 is some sort of remix...

What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted

The label says - Original version appears on the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack FRIED GREEN TOMATOES album.

The 45 version is indeed a remix and cannot be edited from the LP version.

Since I hadn't gotten to this song yet, ordered the 45 today. Will be anxious to hear the remix.

Hi to everyone, I have the TM Century Hit Disc number 923A from January 10, 1992, and track 9 is "Paul Young - What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted" and the lenght is 3:42, it ends with a long fadeout.

I was just comparing the LP and single versions and although the remix differences are somewhat subtle, the big difference is that the two versions have a completely different sax solo! The single version solo mirrors the chorus melody in its opening phrases while the album version is much more free form. The length difference is due to an early fade.

Quick Question on this......

Is the 3:50 dj promo version an edit of the 45/cassingle version which would then make it a remix or is it an edit of the LP version?

Ed, I'm a little confused as to why you would ask others for the "actual
running time" of a CD45-2106 promo CD single that you already own, but
no matter. Although my 1-track promo has a listed time of (3:50), it's
actual time is (3:48). But it exactly mimics the TM version info mentioned
later in this thread, with the song's audio level during the last 5 seconds
or so being so low as to be basically inaudible. Radio would've dumped
out of it at 3:42-ish. FYI. this was the only promo CD single for the song
that we got into our station back in 1992.

Jim, if I am reading into it correctly, I think Ed is hoping that someone has a promo CD that is different from his--i.e. a second issued promo that has the 45 version.

Yes, Aaron, I did pick up on the fact that Ed was hoping that a second
promo CDS existed, which mirrored his 45/cassingle's contents, for which
I do not believe existed. And I realize that this it is an "older" initial post.
Ed was clearly disappointed that the 2106 P CDS contents did not match
up with his commercial 45 audio. My only point was that, for this reason,
I feel Ed "glossed over" the actual 2106 P CDS contents, and provided
incomplete details in his post. He said his promo "runs 3:50." So that's
what I thought myself, when I first read it. But it doesn't. Listed time
(3:50); actual time (3:48). But, on a practical level, the track only runs
(3:42). And an eight second time difference is an eternity for some of us
"sticklers." In fact, it appears to me as if this P CD single's mastering
engineer clearly made a mistake. He intended to have the faded audio be
fully gone by (3:42), but he accidentally only faded it down to "1%", not
"0%". This is a quite unusual find. I just happened to find my good buddy
Ed's comments on it a tad confusing. And *no* one on our board takes a
time discrepancy of just a few seconds more seriously than EdTop40!    :)

Ed,

Is the 3:50 promo version an edit of the 45/cassingle version which
would make it a remix or is it an edit of the LP version?

Bumping this up to answer Fetta's question from 2012. The 3:50 (3:48 actual) promo CD single uses an edit of the LP version. The 45/cassingle version which is a remix has never been issued on CD.

Does anyone out there have a clean dub of the commercial 45 of this hit?

I'd love to hear it!

Thank you "prisdeej"!!

It sounds good.

Is it taken from a cassingle, a 45 donut, or did you find a digital source?

It's an immaculate vinyl restoration.
