Does anyone know which version of this song was on the commercial single and / or received the lion's share of airplay at the time? I always thought it was the version that started "Step inside, walk this way ...", but I have been hearing a lot of stations spinning the song recently as a gold recurrent with the beginning "Love me like a Bomb (reverb).

Thanks!

The 45 version was actually an 'edit' of the import 12"/video version (which is the 'Greatest Hits' version).

Basically the 45 was prety much the album version with the "Step Inside..." intro replaced with the words "Love Is Like A Bomb" only.

The album version with the a capella "Step inside, walk this way..." intro is the version I too was accustomed to hearing when the song was a hit in 1988. Does anyone have a DJ copy of "Pour Some Sugar on Me"? I'm curious as to which version(s) appear on it.

I have the DJ 45 and it's the "edit" version with "love is like a bomb...".

I *believe* the AOR promo 12" (which was issued three months before the 45) had the LP version.

I just heard Ed's copy, and that's the first time I had ever heard the true 45 version. I was always used to hearing the LP version and the video/12" version. Yes, it's true that the 45 is an edit of the 12" version; however, it's a horrible edit!

For those wondering, there's only one edit, which cuts from 0:03 to 0:31. It's the first line "love is like a bomb" with a very sloppy edit right before the guitar starts and ending right where the music would kick in on the LP version. Whoever did the editing really butchered it!

Pulling this thread again as I am a little confused:

I have three different versions of this song:

1)Video Version from Vault
2)Some type of extended version which clocks in around 5:36.... sounds almost like a 12" mix of some sort
3) A version which begins "Step Inside, Walk this way" and clock in at around 4:25.

I am a little confused by some of the postings above. I am trying to find out if #3 above (A version which begins "Step Inside, Walk this way" and clock in at around 4:25) is the 45 version or LP version?

Thanks.

The 4:25 version with the "Step inside..." acapella intro
is the LP version.

It's been a long time since I heard the 45 version, but I
believe it is an edit of the video version. The "Love is
like a bomb..." intro section was shortened on the 45.

I never heard the 45 version on the radio at all, and in fact I didn't even know it existed until a few years ago. What I always heard was the album version with the "Step inside..." intro cut off to where the song just began with the music. When I got the full album and heard the "Step Inside" intro, I assumed the version I'd been hearing up to that point must have been the single version. I didn't realize the stations must have just been cuing past the spoken intro.

FWIW, I heard the 45 version with "love is like a bomb,-
bomb-bomb" when the song was new and bought the 45.
Months later I bought the album and that LP intro was
new to me.
But as years went on, I mostly heard the LP intro on the
radio so I got more used to that one.
